In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Wangerin, Jr., former OEP Managing Director
William H. Wangerin, Jr.
May 30, 1968 - November 13, 2019
Everyone at OEP is saddened to have lost our friend and former colleague Bill Wangerin, who passed away on November 13 from brain cancer.
Bill joined us as a Partner and Managing Director in 2001 and led several very successful investments. He worked closely with Lee Gardener and Jac Nasser in Detroit before moving to Chicago.
Bill was smart, compassionate and a great listener; an optimist in life, but a pessimist when it came to management projections. He was famous for asking the most challenging questions in the nicest possible voice. His Wisconsin roots combined with his Goldman experience—as well as his stint running the family cheese business, truly made Bill one of a kind.
It’s incredibly sad for us to have lost one of our early leaders to cancer at 51 and we all feel so lucky to have known Bill.
His wife Laura held the first of two memorials for Bill on Saturday, November 23 in New Jersey, at which two of his longtime friends from Goldman painted an incredible picture of the supportive Bill that we all knew. He will have a second service in Green Bay in February.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory in support of the following:
